Approved medications with presets
A preset is a set of labelled presentation facts: the amount in the vial, the fill or diluent volume, and the concentration the label states. It never includes a dose. Every preset below links to the label it was read from and shows the date it was checked.
The rule for inclusion is short. A medication appears here if it holds current FDA marketing authorisation for the exact presentation described, and that presentation is one a patient or caregiver draws from a vial or reconstitutes at home. Pens, autoinjectors, implants and clinic-only kits are left out because they deliver their own dose and a syringe calculator would only get in the way. Products without FDA approval are never named. Each medication below has a button that opens its calculator with the labelled vials loaded as choices.
Tirzepatide

Zepbound vials (single-dose and multi-dose). The Zepbound label describes withdrawal with a 1 mL syringe. Confirm the syringe you were given with your pharmacist.

The mistake to watch for. A single-dose vial holds one labelled dose in 0.5 mL. If your prescription matches the vial strength, the draw is the whole vial: 0.5 mL, which is 50 units on a U-100 syringe. Drawing a fraction of a single-dose vial is a different question to ask your pharmacist.

Insulin
Humulin, Novolin, Humalog, NovoLog, Lantus, Vetsulin, ProZinc · Insulin · FDA-approved · prescribed in units
U-100 human and analogue insulin; U-40 veterinary insulin. U-100 insulin is drawn with a U-100 syringe, where the syringe mark equals the insulin units. U-40 veterinary insulin needs a U-40 syringe.
- U-100 insulin vial: 100 units/mL On a U-100 syringe the mark equals the dose in units.
- U-40 veterinary insulin (Vetsulin, ProZinc): 40 units/mL Must be drawn with a U-40 syringe. A U-100 syringe gives a 2.5 times error.
The mistake to watch for. U-500 insulin (Humulin R U-500) is five times as concentrated as U-100 and its label requires the matching U-500 syringe. It is not offered in this calculator, and no U-100 conversion is shown for it.

Somatropin (HGH)

Serostim, Zomacton and Omnitrope powder vials. These labels describe reconstitution with the supplied diluent and withdrawal with an ordinary syringe. Somatropin is prescribed in mg on these labels.

The mistake to watch for. The labels permit a range of diluent volumes for some vials, so two people with the same vial can have different concentrations. The concentration is the number to check against your own preparation.
Somatropin doses are individual and are not listed here. A convention of about 3 IU per mg is sometimes quoted for growth hormone; it is not applied by this calculator. Chorionic gonadotropin (HCG)

Pregnyl and Novarel 5,000 and 10,000 unit vials. The diluent volume you add sets the concentration. Small doses need the larger diluent volume to be measurable on a syringe.

The mistake to watch for. Syringe units and medication units are different things. 500 units of HCG at 1,000 units/mL is 0.5 mL, which is the 50 mark on a U-100 syringe, not the 500 mark.

Mecasermin (Increlex)

Metreleptin (Myalept)

Myalept 11.3 mg vial, 5 mg/mL after reconstitution. The label describes reconstitution with 2.2 mL. Which diluent applies depends on the patient; follow the label and your pharmacist.

Somavert 10 to 30 mg vials, each with 1 mL diluent. Each strength reconstitutes with 1 mL, so the concentration in mg/mL equals the vial strength.

Calcitonin salmon

The mistake to watch for. 100 units of calcitonin at 200 units/mL is 0.5 mL, the 50 mark on a U-100 syringe, not the 100 mark.

Approved, but deliberately not offered
Being approved is necessary but not sufficient. These products are FDA-approved and are still left out, for the reasons given.
- Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus): pens and a tablet only. Liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda): pens only. A vial of either is a compounded product; the semaglutide page explains how to enter your own label's concentration.
- Exenatide (Byetta, Bydureon BCise), pramlintide (SymlinPen), teriparatide (Forteo and generics), abaloparatide (Tymlos), bremelanotide (Vyleesi): pens or autoinjectors that measure their own dose.
- Follitropin alfa (Gonal-f) and menotropins (Menopur): fertility kits whose labels either supply syringes calibrated in the product's own units or describe pooling several vials at a prescriber-set volume. The kit instructions govern, and a generic conversion could disagree with them.
- Leuprolide, triptorelin, degarelix, goserelin, lanreotide: depot kits and implants prepared and given by a clinician.
- Afamelanotide (Scenesse): an implant placed by a professional.
- Humulin R U-500: its label requires the dedicated U-500 syringe and says no conversion should be made. The insulin page carries the warning.
- Navepegritide (Yuviwel) and copper histidinate (Zycubo): approved in 2026 and reconstituted at home, but their labelled concentrations do not follow from vial amount divided by diluent, so the kit's own instructions are the only safe guide and this calculator does not model them.
- Desmopressin injection, vasopressin, oxytocin: facility-use presentations, or home use not established on the label.
Not approved, not offered
Compounds without FDA marketing authorisation, including investigational GLP-1 medicines still in trials and any substance sold as a "research" product, are not named anywhere on this site, not as presets, not in reference tables, not in page addresses. "My vial is not listed or is compounded" will do the arithmetic for any vial, because arithmetic does not know what is in the vial, but this site takes no part in describing, promoting or sourcing those products. When a medication receives FDA approval, its labelled presentation can be added. There is no other route.
Full notice
This tool does not choose or check a medication, dose, concentration, diluent, syringe or route. It works from the numbers on your prescription and label, as you type them. A mark on a U-100 syringe is a volume, not a medication dose in units or IU. If anything here differs from what you were given, or you are unsure, do not prepare or inject: ask the prescriber or the dispensing pharmacist. No preset is a dose. Presets exist for FDA-approved products; any other vial is arithmetic on your own label.
